Duck Dynasty: Rednecks Done Right

Duck DynastyFor the last several months my mother has been trying to get me to check out the A&E series Duck Dynasty (now in its second season). Unlike most rednecks, I don’t have cable, dish and Direct TV spliced from a neighbor and/or duct taped to the roof of my trailer.

Last winter I did a Google search for it and barely found any results. I couldn’t find it on Hulu or Amazon or any other such service, and Google seemed to think I had lost my search mojo. So I let it go until I spotted it on Hulu the other day in a banner ad (oh how the redneck has risen).

Having only viewed the two free episodes provided via Hulu, I’m certainly no Dynasty guru. Those two episodes did convert me to a fan. While Good Morning West Monroe didn’t seem to pop or drip with redneck witticisms quite as much as Spring Pong Cleaning, I enjoyed both episodes. (My favorite moment in Pong Cleaning went something like, “Everyone loves violence. So we wondered, how can we make ping pong more violent. Pink-belly rules.”)

The Browncoats are Coming! Firefly Returns?

The call for Browncoats from Firefly to unite

When it comes to fan fervor for favorite television show, no one beats the Browncoats (sorry all you Klingons. Qapla!) And recent news indicates that victory for the rebels may be within reach for the first time in almost ten years of struggle. For those of you who have spent too much time on Alliance planets or are just returning from deep space, Browncoats are the independent survivors of the one-season television show, Firefly.

Within the show Browncoats are essentially confederates that lost a cosmic civil war to the Alliance. In first life (or what some people refer to as “reality”) Browncoats are viewers and fans who have remained faithful to the cause of reviving Firefly from its “canned” grave at 20th Century Fox.

Hold on to your laser pistols, but one of the most controversial cancelations in T.V. history could be returning from the grave.

The Jerry Bruckheimer Effect

Jerry BruckheimerOnly one man has produced three television series ranked among the top ten simultaneously, Jerry Bruckheimer. Why, you may ask is this important? Now imagine a world without Mr. Jerome Leon Bruckheimer. Total chaos.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Without a Trace, Cold Case, The Amazing Race, Dark Blue and Chase create a short list of his television works. The man is more machine than man, an American entertainment god. When was the last time any of us sat down to an evening of mind-numbing television without suckling from Bruckheimer’s teat?

So answer me this. Which would disrupt the American way of life more cataclysmically? The bombing of the White House? Or the death of Jerry Bruckheimer?
